One month, 3 predators and a locked room:Woman seeking job raped repeatedly; family breaks lock to rescue her from captivity

Today in Madhya Pradesh Crime Files, the focus is on the Betul kidnapping and rape case that shocked even the police. A 19-year-old girl who had gone to Indore for work suddenly disappeared. Despite her family searching everywhere, there was no trace of her for nearly a month.

When she was finally found alive, she was completely shattered. Her statement exposed a horrifying story that left everyone stunned. What happened to her during those missing days became the center of the investigation.

The case traces back to the night of October 13, 2019, in Amla town of Betul district. Around midnight, a slight chill filled the air, and the silence around the half-constructed houses made the atmosphere even more frightening.

Broken lock, girl found terrified

The lock was smashed open with a stone, and the three men entered the room. Inside, darkness and a damp smell filled the space, while a girl sat huddled in a corner, trembling with fear as if sleep and trust had been taken away from her for days.

The moment she saw them, a faint spark of hope appeared in her eyes, but she was too terrified to speak.

Riya said – something wrong happened to me

Riya was brought home. She remained scared all night. By morning, when her condition had somewhat normalised, she only said in a broken voice, ‘Three people did something wrong to me.’

After this, the story that emerged left the family shattered. Riya revealed that for nearly a month, three youths had repeatedly raped her while keeping her confined at different locations.

The next day, her family took her to the police station, where a case of kidnapping and gang rape was registered. But the case raised several troubling questions for investigators.

How did Riya suddenly disappear? How did she travel from Indore to Amla? Where was she kept hidden for an entire month? And the biggest mystery, how no one gets any clue for so many days?

Riya left home in search of a job

  • This story begins about seven months ago. On March 24, 2019, 19-year-old Riya, who lived near Amla in Betul district, came to Indore in search of a job.
  • The girl from a small town had left home with big dreams. She wanted to stand on her own feet. She wanted to live her life on her own terms.
  • But there was also pressure behind her decision. Her family had married her off in April 2018, as soon as she turned 18. Riya was not happy with this marriage.

Receptionist job and hope for a new life

  • She got a job as a receptionist in a furniture showroom in Indore. The salary was 8 to 10 thousand rupees per month. The amount was not large, but for Riya, it was the beginning of becoming self-reliant.
  • She talked to her mother constantly. She made plans for the future. She felt that after some time, her salary would increase and living in the city would become easier.
  • Her family had told her in-laws that Riya was staying at her uncle’s place. Everything went normally for about six months. But by September 2019, everything suddenly changed.

Phone calls to home suddenly stopped

Riya stopped calling home. At first, the family thought she might be angry. But when there was no communication for two or three days, her mother became worried. The family members reached Indore. They searched wherever there was a possibility. Relatives were asked. Friends were questioned.

No trace of Riya was found. Days passed. A week, then two weeks, and then almost a month.

Sudden appearance in the market

On October 9, the story suddenly took a new turn. Riya’s maternal cousin was going through the Amla market when he saw a girl standing outside a house. It was Riya.

He was shocked to see her. He asked Riya to come home. But Riya was scared. She said, ‘My life is ruined, go away from here, they will kill you too.’

After this, she went inside from there. The uncle’s son did not have a mobile phone. He immediately reached the room and informed the family. By the time the family arrived there, Riya had disappeared.

Young man claimed to be her self-proclaimed brother

Riya’s brother and uncle questioned the landlord. The landlord stated that on September 17, a young man, whom people called ‘Chhote’, had helped the girl rent the room, claiming to be her self-proclaimed brother. He had not submitted any documents either.

He used to bring tiffin every day. The girl never came out of the room. A woman living nearby also stated that she had seen the girl peeking from the window many times. Her face always looked scared, and she did not talk to anyone.

Accused found in the market

On the evening of October 13, Riya’s brother caught a young man named ‘Chhote’ in the market. Initially, he tried to mislead, but broke down under strict interrogation.

He revealed the address of a half-built house near Amla. As night fell, the family reached there. The lock was broken, and Riya was brought out from inside.

Riya, found after a month, was alive but completely broken. Her story was no longer just about a missing person. It had become a case of kidnapping, captivity, and gang rape.

But the biggest questions were still unanswered:

  • Who brought Riya from Indore?
  • Why was she targeted?
  • What exactly did she endure during that one month of captivity?

As the investigation moved forward, shocking details about the accused and the conspiracy behind the crime slowly began to surface. Read Part-2 to know how Riya’s ordeal unfolded, who the accused were, and how the police finally exposed the entire plot.
