Rainfall in the hills has caused 10 rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, to swell across Uttar Pradesh. In Farrukhabad and Bijnor, Ganga water is flowing over the highways, while several roads have been submerged.
Around 40 villages are in the grip of flooding, with dozens of villages cut off and turned into islands. Residents have been forced to leave their villages and homes and live in tents along the roads. Many are also being forced to sleep on the roads at night.
In Farrukhabad, 21 houses have already been swallowed by the Ganga. Residents are demolishing other houses that have come under threat from riverbank erosion themselves, so they can salvage materials such as bricks and steel rods and reuse them to rebuild their homes once the situation improves.
Women broke down in tears as they watched their houses being demolished. Crying, they said, ‘We built our home by saving every penny, but the flood has destroyed our life’s earnings. Where will we go now?’
Yamuna reaches ghat steps in Mathura; routes submerged in Vrindavan
The water level of the Yamuna has reached the steps of the ghats in Mathura. The parikrama route at Keshi Ghat has been submerged in Vrindavan. Devotees are wading through around one foot of water to complete the parikrama.
Around 25 km from Kanpur city, the water level of the Ganga has reached the Brahmavart Ghat. At the ‘Brahma Ki Khunti’ temple, the khunti has been submerged. Ganga water has reached Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi. The routes connecting all 84 ghats have been submerged.
Flood hits Saharanpur after up heavy rain; Delhi-Yamunotri Highway submerged
Meanwhile, Saharanpur received such heavy rainfall on Monday that the Gangarav River suddenly went into spate. The bridge built over the river was damaged.
River water began flowing over the Delhi-Yamunotri Highway. Three to four feet of water accumulated on roads and in residential colonies. Water also entered homes and shops, while cars and motorcycles were half-submerged.
Rain alert issued for all 75 districts; heavy rain possible in Lalitpur and Mahoba
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh today. Heavy rain is possible in Lalitpur and Mahoba. Compared with last year, the state has received 136 mm less rainfall since June 1.
By August 9 last year, Uttar Pradesh had received 437 mm of rain, which was 2% above normal. This year, the state has received 341 mm so far, which is 20% below normal. See photos of rainfall and floods-

The Gangrav River suddenly overflowed after heavy rains in Saharanpur. A bridge over the river was damaged. The Delhi-Yamunotri Highway was also flooded.

Monsoon to remain more active in southern UP for next three days
Lucknow meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said-
The low-pressure area that had formed over south-western Uttar Pradesh has now weakened. The monsoon trough is extending from Delhi and Agra towards the east-central Bay of Bengal. In addition, another low-pressure area formed over south West Bengal and adjoining northern Odisha is moving north-westwards. In such a situation, the monsoon will remain more active in the southern parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next three days.
