Heavy rain has disrupted normal life across Madhya Pradesh after a strong weather system became active over the state.
Bhopal recorded the highest rainfall in the state over the past 24 hours, receiving around 7 inches. Narmadapuram recorded 5 inches, Raisen 4.9 inches, Rajgarh and Shajapur 4.5 inches each, while Sehore received 4 inches.
Several areas of Bhopal have reported waterlogging, while water levels in dams and other reservoirs have also risen.
Pregnant woman taken to hospital amid swollen stream
Several roads have been closed in Sehore following heavy rain, while water has entered homes in low-lying areas.
In one incident, a pregnant woman had to be taken to hospital through a swollen stream after heavy rain disrupted road connectivity.
25 villages cut off after Biaora underpass floods
In Biaora, the railway underpass has been flooded, cutting off road connectivity to around 25 villages.
Traffic has also been stopped on the Bhopal-Berasia road after water rose over the Eintkhedi bridge.
Several rivers and streams in the Berasia area are flowing strongly.
In Mandla, a small bridge remains submerged despite the water level in the Narmada falling.
Water enters homes, shops and government buildings
Waterlogging has also affected Shajapur, Vidisha, Akodia, Salaslai, Raisen and several other areas.
Water has entered houses, shops and government buildings in some locations, causing further disruption to residents.
Schools in Bhopal have been closed because of the heavy rain and waterlogging.
Minister Vishwas Sarang visited waterlogged areas of the city and directed officials to provide relief material and ensure that drains and waterways are cleared.
Rain brings relief for farmers
While the heavy rain has created difficulties for residents and disrupted transport in several districts, farmers are hoping that the rainfall will provide relief to crops after a period of inadequate rain.
Authorities continue to monitor water levels in rivers, drains and reservoirs as more rain is expected in parts of the state.
