1. General N.S. Raja Subramani appointed as CDS
- On 31 May, General N.S. Raja Subramani assumed the position of the country’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
- General Subramani was given a Guard of Honour at South Block Lawns in Delhi immediately after taking charge.
- General Subramani also holds the position of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) in the Defence Ministry.
- General Subramani is the country’s third CDS and he has replaced General Anil Chauhan. General Chauhan retired on Saturday.
- General Subramani was commissioned into the 8th Battalion of Garhwal Rifles on 14 December, 1985.
- General Subramani became the Khadga Corps Commander in 2021. Khadga Corps is the most powerful and formidable strike corps of the Army.
- General Subramani became Chief of Staff of Northern Command and took charge as GOC-in-C Central Command in 2023.
- General Subramani became Vice Chief of Army Staff in 2024.
- General Subramani became Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat in 2025

General Subramani has graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA).
2. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan became the country’s 27th Chief of Naval Staff
- On May 31, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan became the 27th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the country. He replaced Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi.
- Swaminathan joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987.
- Admiral Swaminathan has expertise in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
- Admiral Swaminathan has commanded warships like INS Vidyut, INS Vinash, INS Kulish, INS Mysore, INS Vikramaditya.
- Admiral Swaminathan has served as Chief Staff Officer (Training) of the Southern Naval Command.
- Admiral Swaminathan served as Vice Chief of Naval Staff from May 2024 to July 2025.
- Admiral Swaminathan served as Flag Officer Training from July 2025 to May 2026.
- On May 9, 2026, Admiral Swaminathan became Chief of Naval Staff.

Admiral Swaminathan was honored with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) in 2021.
3. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with the President of Myanmar
- On May 30, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Myanmar’s President U Myint Swe in New Delhi.
- The leaders of both countries discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation and improving regional security.
- This meeting also covered border security and connectivity projects between India and Myanmar.
- During this visit, discussions will be held on India-Myanmar border security, trade and investment, connectivity projects, defense cooperation, and energy and infrastructure development.
- During this visit, discussions may also take place regarding the 1,640-kilometer-long border line with India’s northeastern states.
- This meeting of both leaders is part of India’s Neighborhood First Policy.

Myanmar’s President U Min has come to India on a five-day visit at the invitation of PM Modi.
Sports 4. Athlete Gulveer Singh completed the race in 4 minutes
- On May 30, athlete Gulveer Singh made history by completing a 1 km (approximately 1.6 km) race in less than 4 minutes.
- Gulveer set this record at the ‘Music City Track Carnival’ held in Tennessee, America. Gulveer is the first Indian athlete to complete the race in less than 4 minutes.
- Gulveer won bronze in the 10 thousand km race at the Asian Games in 2022.
- Gulveer won bronze in 5000 meters at the Asian Athletics Championship 2023.
- Gulveer set national records in 5 thousand meters and 10 thousand meters in 2024.
- At the Asian Athletics Championship 2025, Gulveer won double gold in 5 thousand meters and 10 thousand meters.
- Gulveer broke the 2008 national record by running 10,000 meters in 27:00.22 in California in 2025.

Gulveer completed this race in 3 minutes 55.63 seconds.
5. High-jumper Pooja Singh won gold in Asian U20
- On May 30, 19-year-old high-jumper Pooja Singh won the gold medal by breaking a 14-year-old national record at the Asian U20 Athletics Championship in Hong Kong.
- Pooja has broken Sahana Kumari’s 2012 record of 1.92 meters and set a record of 1.93 meters.
- Sahana is also Pooja’s coach. This is Pooja’s second medal at the Asian U20 Championship.
- Pooja started her career as a high-jumper in 2025 with the National Junior Circuit.
- Pooja had jumped 1.90 meters in the Indian Athlete Series held in New Delhi in 2026.
- In 2026, Pooja set a new Indian under-20 national record.
- Pooja has also crossed the AFI qualification mark (1.92 meters) set for Commonwealth Games 2026.
- With this, Pooja has equaled India’s senior women’s high-jump national record holder (1.93 meters).

6. Temporary exemption on import duty on cotton to be implemented from June 1
- From June 1, the Central Government has removed the 11% customs duty on cotton imports. This exemption will remain in effect until October 31.
- This includes the complete removal of the 5% Basic Customs Duty (BCD) and 6% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC) on imported cotton.
- Now from June to October, cotton falling under the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 will remain duty-free.
- Additionally, there will be complete exemption from the ‘Agriculture Cess’ (AIDC) levied under Section 124 of the Finance Act, 2021.
- The objective of the decision to remove customs duty is to provide relief to the domestic textile industry and increase the supply of raw materials.
- The removal of customs duty is expected to provide relief to the MSME-based textile and garment industry.
- For a long time, the garment and textile industry has been demanding the removal of import duty on cotton.

According to the report, 4.5 crore people are associated with the textile industry.
7. Meghalaya will host the 39th National Games 2027
- On May 30, the Meghalaya government signed the ‘Host State Agreement’ to host the 39th National Games 2027.
- This agreement took place during the inauguration ceremony of the Indoor Hall in Shillong, and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha were present during this.
- This agreement is a revised agreement, which concerns the legal, financial and operational responsibilities of both the Meghalaya government and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
- The 39th National Games 2027 will be organized in Shillong, Tura and Jowai.
- After Assam and Manipur, Meghalaya has become the third northeastern state to host the National Games.

More than 10,000 athletes are expected to participate in the 39th National Games 2027.
