Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations have been ongoing since the August 26th flood and landslide. Three Indians, including a 5-year-old child, have been rescued from the Trishuli Bazaar area. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that 169 Indians have been rescued so far, while 275 are still missing.
Nearly 1,344 people have died in Nepal so far, while relief and rescue teams have rescued 12,000 people. More than 5,300 people are currently missing. According to government reports, more than 32,000 people have been affected by the floods.

Rescue teams in Nepal have pulled a Chinese national alive from a hydropower tunnel, 10 days after catastrophic floods devastated areas along the Nepal-China border, the Nepali Army said.

More than 1,000 bodies buried
Authorities in Nepal said 1,030 bodies have already been buried after DNA samples were collected and other identification procedures completed.
Among those buried were 222 women and 355 men, while 453 bodies were so badly damaged that officials were unable to determine their sex, highlighting the scale and severity of the disaster.
The floods, triggered by a massive glacial collapse in the Himalayas, sent torrents of water, mud and debris through river valleys, sweeping away homes, roads, bridges and entire communities.

DNA tests become final hope for families searching for Nepal flood victims
As Nepal continues to grapple with the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that struck the country on August 26, DNA testing has emerged as the only means of identifying many victims and bringing closure to families searching for missing relatives.
For Amrit Diyali, the uncertainty became even more painful when a severed human hand was found downstream in flood-hit areas. The remains bore a striking resemblance to the hand of his younger brother, Raj Kumar Diyali, who disappeared along with his wife and four-year-old son during the disaster.
According to The Kathmandu Post, Amrit’s nephew Avinash sent him a photograph of the hand, telling him, “It looks exactly like uncle’s.” The discovery has left the family torn between hope and fear, with a DNA test now their only chance of learning whether the remains belong to their missing relative.
Thousands of DNA samples collected
Police have collected 2,272 DNA samples so far, including 1,260 samples from recovered bodies and 1,012 samples from relatives of missing persons, according to figures reported by The Kathmandu Post.

River water normal after landslide
On Friday, a mountainside in Bhattar, Nepal, briefly blocked a river channel due to mud and rocks falling from a mountain. This raised concerns about the danger to people living downstream. However, the river flow was normal on Saturday.
District Magistrate Bartraj Poudel said there has been no major change in the river’s water level. The river’s path is currently unblocked.
He said that the falling of mud and stones from the mountain has now stopped, and no new threats are currently being identified. No human or animal casualties were reported in the incident. However, eight families were evacuated on Friday due to the danger.

Indian rescue team steps up Chilime tunnel operations

Over 32,000 people affected by floods in Nepal
The devastating floods in Nepal have affected 32,933 people so far. According to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the floods have damaged schools, colleges, and other educational institutions, affecting more than 6,500 students.
Four health centers were completely damaged, while three were partially damaged. Approximately 55 kilometers of roads were completely destroyed in the floods. Additionally, 37 motorable bridges and 68 suspension bridges were damaged. The government stated that a detailed assessment of the damage has not yet been completed.

Contaminated water sources raise disease fears in flood-hit Nepal
Health authorities in Nepal are weighing emergency vaccination measures after tests found contamination in drinking water supplies in flood-affected areas, raising concerns over potential disease outbreaks.
According to The Kathmandu Post, five of the 15 drinking water sources in Bidur, one of the areas worst hit by the Bhote Koshi floods, were found to be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
Officials are now considering a cholera vaccination drive for around 100,000 vulnerable residents and a measles immunisation campaign covering more than 75,000 children in affected regions.
The floods not only caused heavy loss of life but also swept away entire settlements and severely damaged critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges and drinking water systems, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases and complicating relief efforts.

India sent 95 tonnes of relief material in 7 aircraft
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has sent approximately 95 tonnes of relief material to Nepal since the floods began on August 26th. This material was delivered via seven aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah on August 26th and assured him of all possible assistance. India dispatched the first consignment of relief material a few hours later.
India has also sent 54 experts to Nepal for relief and rescue operations. These include 30 tunnel rescue experts, 19 forensic experts, and a five-member medical team. Indian teams are working closely with Nepali authorities.

35 motorable and 45 suspension bridges damaged in Nepal
According to local officials, the floods have damaged 35 motorable bridges, 45 suspension bridges and about 40 kilometers of paved roads, mainly in central Nepal, disrupting traffic in many areas.
India has said it will continue to provide assistance to the Nepal government as needed, including sending forensic kits, Bailey bridges, and other essential supplies.
