On Saturday morning, a 30-year-old woman who went to collect tendu leaves in Umaria’s world-famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve was attacked by a tiger. She died on the spot. As soon as information about the incident was received, Tiger Reserve officials and staff reached the spot and started an investigation.
This incident took place in the Kudri forest of the Panpatha Core area. The woman was identified as Mamta Yadav, a resident of Kudri. She had gone to collect tendu leaves between 7 and 8 AM when the tiger attacked.

As soon as the family members learned about the woman’s death, they broke down in tears.
Range Officer Ramesh Patle said,

The matter is being investigated. The department continuously educates villagers who go to collect tendu leaves. Surveillance has been increased in the area. This is the second death within 15 days in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, while three people have been injured.

Villagers arrived at the spot with sticks after the incident.
Tiger and bear attacks in May
- On May 3, Rajju Kol (46), a resident of Kudri, died in a tiger attack in the Panpatha core area. He had gone to collect mahua and wood.
- On May 10, Meera Singh (26), a young woman from Goraiya who had gone to collect tendu leaves in the Dhamokhar buffer area, was attacked by a bear. She sustained serious injuries to her leg.
- On May 11, Nirsia Baiga was attacked by a tiger during tendu leaf collection in the Manpur buffer area. He sustained injuries to his right arm and palm.
- On May 12, Dharmendra, who had gone to collect tendu leaves in the Manpur buffer area, was attacked by a tiger. He sustained serious head injuries and claw-and-tooth marks on his body.
