The last rites of Prateek Yadav, younger brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and son of former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, will be performed at Baikunth Dham in Lucknow at 11 am on Thursday.
Prateek died on Wednesday morning at the age of 38.
According to the postmortem report, the cause of death was cardiac arrest. Doctors also found six injury marks on his body that had occurred before his death. Of these, three injuries were around seven days old, while the remaining three were reportedly a day old. Officials have preserved the viscera for further examination.
Aparna Yadav returned from Assam after news of death
At the time of Prateek’s death, his wife and BJP leader Aparna Yadav was in Assam. After returning to Lucknow, she broke down while embracing her daughters.
Prateek’s body was kept at his residence for final tributes. Members of the Yadav family, including Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav, arrived to pay their respects. Akhilesh appeared emotional during the farewell ceremony.

Aparna Yadav returned to Lucknow from Assam and started crying, hugging her daughters. When she reached Prateek’s body, she kept staring at his face.

Suffered from serious lung condition
Prateek was the son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife Sadhana Gupta. Doctors said he was suffering from pulmonary embolism, a serious lung condition in which blood clots block arteries in the lungs, disrupting blood circulation.

Prateek had a love marriage with Aparna.
Studied in Britain, stayed away from politics
Sadhana Gupta was first married to Chandraprakash Gupta in 1986, and Prateek was born in 1987. The couple separated in 1990. During this period, Sadhana grew close to Mulayam Singh Yadav, who later married her in 2003 and publicly accepted Prateek as his son.
Prateek studied at the University of Leeds in Britain. Despite belonging to a prominent political family, he largely stayed away from politics.
He was known for his interest in luxury cars and superbikes and was involved in real estate and fitness businesses. According to election affidavits filed in 2022, the combined movable and immovable assets of Prateek and Aparna were valued at around ₹23 crore.

Prateek Yadav took great care of his fitness. His last rites will be performed on May 14 in Lucknow.
Marriage, divorce announcement and reconciliation
Prateek and Aparna had married for love around 14 years ago and had two daughters together.
Earlier this year, on January 19, Prateek had unexpectedly announced his decision to divorce Aparna, alleging that “Aparna made my life miserable.” However, the couple reconciled within nine days.
Sharing a picture with Aparna on Instagram after the patch-up, Prateek had written: “All is Good.”
