Car catches fire during charging in Ghaziabad:Smoke spreads in building, 15 escape by jumping to adjacent building

Massive fire breaks out during EV charging in Ghaziabad, smoke fills building, 15 people escape by jumping to neighbouring structure; probe on A major fire broke out late Tuesday night in Ghaziabad during the charging of an electric vehicle. The blaze quickly filled the entire building and stairwell with thick smoke, triggering panic among residents.

The incident took place at A-77 Rampuri in Suryanagar under the Link Road police station area. On receiving the alert, four fire tenders from Vaishali and Sahibabad fire stations rushed to the spot.

Amid the fire and heavy smoke, around 15 people trapped inside the building managed to save their lives by jumping into an adjacent building. Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal, who reached the spot, said that all residents were safely evacuated and no casualties were reported. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly 25 minutes of effort.

Fire erupts in a car while charging

According to police and fire officials, an electric vehicle charging station operated by a private company was set up inside the building. An electric car was being charged at night when it suddenly caught fire. Within moments, a loud explosion-like sound was heard, causing panic in the surrounding area.

Smoke fills the staircase

Rakesh, a resident of the building, said that when he looked towards the staircase, he saw a car on the ground floor engulfed in flames. Smoke rapidly spread upwards, making it difficult to breathe. He then rushed upstairs, raised an alarm and woke up other residents. All of them managed to escape through a neighbouring building.

Short circuit suspected as cause

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit during the charging process. However, the fire department is conducting a detailed probe into the incident.
