After a prolonged legal battle spanning nearly 15 years, former Army personnel Promod Kumar Borana from Madhya Pradesh was acquitted in an alleged molestation case by the 1st Fast Track Court of the City Sessions Court in Kolkata.
Former army personnel acquitted after long battle
The case, registered as “State vs Promod Kumar Borana” (Case No. SC 48/11), dated back to 2011 when Borana was serving at Fort William under the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. At the time, a woman had filed a complaint at Kolkata’s Maidan Police Station, accusing him under Sections 376 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code, now BNS related to rape and molestation allegations.
Following the complaint, Borana was arrested by the police. He was later granted bail while the case continued in court over the years.
Court examined testimonies from 15 witnesses
On Monday, Justice Kaustav Mukhopadhyay acquitted Borana of all charges after hearing testimonies from 15 witnesses during the trial proceedings. According to court observations, the allegations brought against the former Army personnel were found to be false, and the court noted that he had been unnecessarily implicated in the case.

The judgment brought an end to a lengthy judicial process that had continued for more than a decade. Legal experts stated that the ruling highlighted the importance of careful examination of evidence and witness testimonies during criminal trials.
