Under the Government of India’s ‘Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan’ initiative, the ‘Janjatiya Garima Utsav’ was organised on Tuesday at the Boynala Community Hall in Sonarpur block of South 24 Parganas district.

Tribal youths performed traditional dance and music
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the local tribal community, including youths and women, who took part in various cultural activities showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the indigenous population.

Caste certificates distributed during programme
As part of the celebrations, participants performed traditional tribal dance and folk music, drawing appreciation from the audience present at the event. The programme also included felicitation of representatives from tribal communities, distribution of caste certificates, and a tree plantation drive aimed at promoting environmental awareness and social inclusion.

District officials said the initiative was aimed at recognising the contribution, culture and identity of tribal communities while ensuring greater public participation in welfare-related programmes.

The event was attended by South 24 Parganas District Magistrate Abhishek Tiwari, Sonarpur South MLA Rupa Ganguly, Sonarpur North MLA Debashis Dhar, along with several administrative officials and local representatives.
Organisers described the programme as a successful celebration of tribal pride, cultural identity and community participation.
