Expansion
Now there will be no need to work hard to find out what is hidden under the ground – gas pipelines, electrical wires or other structures. This work will be possible without human help and without digging. NCM (Non-Contacting) system of IIT Mandi will do this work easily. It has also been successfully tested in Dubai. At the present time, investigations under the ground are carried out with human help, which is possible only up to a maximum of 5 kilometres in a day.
Whereas through NCM system, survey can be done for 15 to 20 kilometers without any human intervention. This device can work continuously for eight hours and the person operating it can sit in one place and monitor it. It can give accurate information about plumbing or other structures present under the ground up to a depth of about three and a half meters. Earlier, digging had to be done to find out these things, which took a lot of time.
On this project Dr. Naren, Dr. Amit Shukla and his team have worked. Dr. Shukla has used it in Dubai, where it was used to test the gas pipeline and yielded positive results. He expressed hope that soon big companies of India will also adopt this technology. This device can also prove useful for those who are planning to build a new house. Through this, they will be able to know in advance whether gas pipelines or electric wires are present under the ground or not, so that the right decision can be taken before digging.
