A campaign is underway to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free within 100 days. Meanwhile, a controversy broke out on Sunday over the Chief Minister’s remarks in response to a journalist’s question.
Abdullah said that people drink alcohol of their own choice. The government is not forcing anyone to visit liquor shops.
He said these shops are meant for people whose religion allows alcohol consumption. He also said that no government in Jammu and Kashmir has banned these shops so far.
On this issue, the BJP staged a protest in Srinagar on Friday, demanding a complete ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir. During the protest, police stopped party leaders and workers from marching towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence.
