The accused had rented a room in Benipur under the Sarnath police station limits in Varanasi. During his service, he developed a relationship with a woman from the Ajgara police station area. He began visiting her home, but her family objected due to caste differences. Following this, the woman started living with him in Sarnath.
The woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with the constable for four years and had been living with him as his wife for the past two years. She became pregnant twice. About six months ago, when she conceived, the accused took her to Mirzapur and pressured her to undergo an abortion, saying that having a child without marriage would create problems. After some disputes, she became pregnant again two months ago.
During this period, Prashant allegedly fixed his marriage elsewhere and, after the woman conceived again, married another woman in Prayagraj.

Marriage exposed through photos
On May 1, the woman learned about his marriage through photos on social media. When she called him, he gave evasive replies and cited circumstances and family pressure. He promised to come to Sarnath to resolve the matter.
However, the victim approached the police on May 4 and submitted a written complaint, seeking action against him. The police called the constable for questioning. He arrived at Sarnath police station along with his elder brother, Kamal Narayan Rai.
During interrogation, the police confronted him with questions and photographs with the victim. He reportedly got entangled in his statements and confessed to the crime. Call Detail Records (CDR) were also presented as evidence, following which he was arrested.
After the arrest, he will be produced in court. The police have also informed the Police Commissioner and the concerned district authorities, recommending his suspension and departmental action. Further investigation is underway.
Went on leave for marriage
Sarnath SHO Pankaj Rai said the accused constable was posted in Ghazipur and had been on leave for the past few days to get married in his hometown in Mirzapur. Upon receiving the complaint, an inquiry confirmed the allegations, and he was called to the police station and subsequently arrested.
He had applied for leave for his wedding a few days earlier. During his absence, another gunner was temporarily assigned to the minister, and since he did not return, his official deployment was not resumed.
