70-year-old woman confronts bike-borne snatcher:Pushes accused after chain-snatching attempt outside home, miscreant escapes with half chain

The elderly wife of a retired Army officer bravely confronted a chain snatcher in Ajmer on Monday morning. The incident took place around 6:30 am outside her house in Bihariganj Ambika Colony.

According to the victim, a bike-borne miscreant wearing a helmet arrived and attempted to snatch her gold chain. The woman resisted and struggled with the accused for nearly three minutes. During the scuffle, half of the gold chain remained in her hand while the miscreant escaped with the other half.

Woman resisted the accused despite attack

Shakuntala Sharma (70) said she was standing outside her house when the accused suddenly approached her on a motorcycle.

“A helmet-clad man came on a bike and grabbed my gold chain. I caught hold of his hand and pushed him. The chain broke during the struggle,” she said. Shakuntala added that she tried to snatch the chain back from the accused. She said that half of the chain remained with me and half stayed in the miscreant’s hand. Taking advantage of the situation, he fled from the spot,” she said.

After hearing Shakuntala’s screams, family members rushed out of the house and tried to chase the accused. However, the miscreant managed to escape. Her husband, Suresh Chandra Sharma, is a retired Office Superintendent from the Army.

Police examine CCTV footage

Personnel from Alwar Gate police station reached the spot after receiving information and inspected the area. Alwar Gate SHO Narendra Jakhar said police examined CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene.

“In the footage, a miscreant can be seen fleeing from the area. Efforts are underway to identify and trace him based on the CCTV footage,” he said.
