BJP worker attacked with chopper in Garia clash:TMC worker accused of assaulting water supplier during heated altercation

Tension gripped the Garia area on Friday afternoon after an alleged attack on a BJP worker by a Trinamool Congress supporter during a heated altercation near Mahua Cinema Hall.

Political clash triggers panic in Garia

According to police sources, the incident took place at around 12:35 pm in a lane beside Satyanarayan Mishtanna Bhandar, opposite Mahua Cinema in Garia. The victim, identified as Anirban Mukherjee, a resident of Kanungo Park in Kolkata-84, was reportedly supplying drinking water door-to-door when he was suddenly attacked.

Police said the accused, identified as Sudip Das alias “Khatash” alias “Buro,” allegedly assaulted Mukherjee with a sharp weapon locally known as a “katari” or chopper, causing injuries to his hand.

Following the attack, panic spread in the area, and a large police force was deployed at the spot to prevent further tension. Locals alleged that the clash stemmed from a heated altercation between the both.

Injured BJP worker admitted to hospital

The injured BJP worker was rushed to Baghajatin State General Hospital for treatment. Later, he was transferred to SSKM hospital. Police sources said he is currently stable and undergoing medical care. An FIR is being drafted, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated. No arrest had been officially confirmed.
