Samson makes ‘selfish’ remark after missing century by 13 runs:KL Rahul’s 0.24-second stumping, Noor Ahmad drops sitter

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in match 48 of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on 5 May. With this, the Chennai Super Kings registered their fifth win of the season and remained in contention for a spot in the playoffs. They also did a double over the Delhi Capitals in the group stage this year.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals slumped to their sixth loss in 10 matches and find themselves in the seventh spot on the points table. The DC vs CSK match witnessed several top moments. Let’s take a look at them.

DC vs CSK Top Moments

1) Sanju Samson’s ‘selfish’ remark after missing century by 13 runs

Sanju Samson was the star of the show for CSK in their win over the Delhi Capitals, with the wicketkeeper-batter scoring an unbeaten 87. Speaking after the match, Samson was asked if he had a desire to get to his hundred. And the 31-year-old responded, “I had to be a bit too selfish to get that (century). So I thought let’s win the game. The other partner (Kartik Sharma) was batting really well, so I didn’t want to tell him, ek single de de, main 100 banata hu (give me a single, I want to score a century).”

2) Gaikwad and Overton mix-up during catch

Jamie Overton and Ruturaj Gaikwad were involved in a mix-up for a catch. This incident happened in the 19th over when Sameer Rizvi got a leading edge to a Jamie Overton delivery and ballooned up in the air. Overton seemed to attempt the catch but eventually pulled out.

Gaikwad, who was nearby, was also left confused, with Overton initially going for the catch. He did not attempt the catch either and the chance went begging. This catch was eerily similar to the hilarious Shoaib Malik-Saeed Ajmal catch drop for Pakistan in an ODI against the West Indies in 2008. Fans on social media also recalled Pakistan’s funny catch drop after this.

3) Akeal Hosein brings out mask celebration

Akeal Hosein performed his mask celebration after dismissing KL Rahul in the first innings of this match. This happened in the last over of the powerplay when Rahul danced down the track and attempted to smash Hosein for a big six.

But unfortunately, the ball hit the toe-end of the bat and went high in the air. And CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made no mistake in taking a good catch.

4) KL Rahul’s quickfire stumping

KL Rahul pulled off a quickfire stumping to dismiss Urvil Patel in the second innings of this match. This happened in the seventh over of the chase, bowled by DC captain Axar Patel, when the CSK batter attempted to hit the ball down the ground and got out of the crease. The time taken to complete the stumping was 0.24 seconds.

Rahul collected the ball in a flash and took out the stumps, completing the stumping in no time.

5) Noor Ahmad drops Tristan Stubbs on one

Noor Ahmad made a blunder on the field, dropping Noor Ahmad’s catch when he was just on one run. This happened in the first ball of the 11th over when Stubbs uppishly drove the ball straight to cover and Noor, who got to the ball, spilt the catch.

And Stubbs made Gurjapneet pay by hitting the very next ball for a big six on the leg-side. Stubbs eventually finished with an unbeaten 38 off 31 balls, with one four and two sixes to his name.

6) Fan holds out ‘Tujhe fans ki yaad nahi aayi Maahi?’ poster

While the match was going on, the camera showed a fan holding out a poster that read, “Tujhe fans ki yaad nahi aayi, Maahi?” (Don’t you remember your fans, Maahi?). Needless to say, this was for MS Dhoni, who is yet to feature in IPL 2026 since suffering a calf strain. The above line was a recreation of a viral dialogue from the popular movie ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.

7) Noor Ahmad gets revenge on Nitish Rana right after a four On the second ball of the 10th over, Nitish Rana hit a four off Noor Ahmad’s delivery. On the very next ball, Noor had Rana caught by Kartik Sharma and sent him back to the pavilion. Rana went down on one knee to play a sweep shot on a short ball. But the shot went up in the air and Kartik Sharma took an easy catch at deep backward square leg.

Nitish Rana returning to the pavilion after being dismissed, and Noor's celebration.

Nitish Rana returning to the pavilion after being dismissed, and Noor’s celebration.

Rana, disappointed, tossed his bat in the air and walked back towards the pavilion. On the other hand, Noor Ahmad, Kartik Sharma, and other Chennai players started celebrating.

8) Ashutosh run out by Gaikwad’s direct throw In the 20th over, Ashutosh Sharma was run out by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s direct throw. The ball bounced after hitting the pitch, which Anshul Kamboj lightly touched. The ball went to Gaikwad, who hit it directly at the bowler’s end from mid-on. In an attempt to take a risky run, Ashutosh remained outside the crease and was run out.
