Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana sponsored a modern rifle for Indian shooter Meghana Sajjanar. Meghana, who had been struggling due to a lack of better equipment, got the opportunity to train with a world-class rifle with Ayushmann’s help.
After this, Meghana recently won gold in the 10-metre air rifle team event and a bronze medal in the individual event at the Asian Shooting Championship held at Delhi’s Karni Singh Shooting Range.
“He did not even know me; he only wanted to see India win”
Meghana said in a social media post that Ayushmann did not know her previously and that they had never met. She wrote that all Ayushmann wanted was for an Indian athlete to bring glory to the country on the world’s biggest stage.
Meghana said the rifle created a “level playing field” for her. It enabled her to train without making compromises and compete against the world’s best shooters.
Two bronze medals at the World Championship as well
Meghna has represented India at the international level. She won bronze medals at the 2022 and 2025 ISSF World Championships. She also won gold in the team event and bronze in the individual event at the Asian Championships.
Lack of better equipment had become a challenge
Meghna did not have better equipment for training. When Ayushmann learnt about her difficulties, he helped her without revealing his identity. Receiving the rifle allowed Meghna to prepare with better equipment.
