Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 18 May. With this victory, both SRH and the Gujarat Titans (GT) qualified for the playoffs. CSK, on the other hand, have just one game to try and qualify for the knockout round.
Ishan Kishan starred with a brilliant 70 to help the Sunrisers Hyderabad chase down 181 to win after Pat Cummins’ three-wicket haul had silenced the CSK batters at Chepauk. MS Dhoni missed CSK’s last home match of the season and came out to wave goodbye to the fans. The match had several other top moments. Let’s have a look.

1) Samson and Klaasen engage in heated argument
Sanju Samson and Heinrich Klaasen engaged in a heated argument in the second innings of the match. This incident happened in the 15th over of the innings bowled by Noor Ahmad when Samson pulled off an MS Dhoni-like stumping to dismiss Klaasen. As Klaasen was walking back to the dugout, he and Samson exchanged some words.
2) MS Dhoni poses in CSK’s team photo, waves at Chepauk crowd
During the innings break, MS Dhoni posed with the CSK players in their last home game of the season. Dhoni did not feature against SRH due to his fitness. There were speculations that Dhoni would retire in this match but with him not playing, the suspense continued.
After the match, Dhoni also came out and waved at the fans who had turned up at the Chepauk. The CSK legend reunited with ‘Chinna Thala‘ Suresh Raina and clicked photos with groundstaff as the CSK players thanked their fans.
3) Ishan Kishan taunts CSK fans with ‘Whistle’ celebration
Ishan Kishan taunted CSK fans with a ‘whistle’ celebration after the match. The left-hander played a match-winning 70-run knock off 47 balls and after the match, was seen performing the ‘whistle’ celebration, something which is specific to CSK and their fans. For the unversed, CSK have ‘Whistle Podu’ as their catchphrase. And Ishan’s celebration was a reference to that.
4) Pat Cummins reacts to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s decision
During the toss, when Ruturaj Gaikwad decided to bat first, Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins reacted to the decision. He was surprised that Gaikwad decided to bat first in this must-win match.

5) Urvil Patel hits back-to-back sixes against Pat Cummins
In the third over of the play, CSK batter Urvil Patel hits Pat Cummins for two back-to-back sixes on will. In the fifth ball of the third over, Urvil pulls it through deep mid-wicket and in the last ball of the over, he whips his wrist through the deep square leg for a maximum.
6) Sakib Hussain ties Kartik Sharma’s shoelaces
During the ongoing match, Hyderabad’s Sakib Hussain tied in-form Kartik Sharma’s shoelaces. Kartik departed for 32 runs, facing 19 balls, as Pat Cummins enforced him to play a false shot and Nitish Kumar Reddy took a brilliant catch in the 10th over.

In the eighth over of the second innings, Akeal Hosein performed his trademark ‘mask’ celebration after dismissing explosive Abhishek Sharma. The ball was down the leg and Abhishek attempted to make the most of it with a slog sweep. But he did not make the connection he would have wanted and picked out Spencer Johnson in the deep.
